Whether through listening to select types of music or engaging in making music with an instrument, music therapy has a documented positive effect on individuals dealing with chronic pain. One study at the Cleveland Clinic demonstrated significant relief of chronic pain for people with long-term pain symptoms when listening to music for just an hour a day.
